For my 2nd computer programing project, I looked at all G.D.P. growth by region in the 1900's. Using data from the World Bank, I cleaned several thousand data points until I only had the G.D.P. growth by region. In the different regions of the world, there was not a ton of G.D.P. growth at the turn of the century due to recession and monetary restriction throughout the world.
G.D.P. Growth in terms of Foreign Imports
In an analysis using Python, several thousand lines of code were analyzed to pick out certain regions of the world to see G.D.P. growth. Interestingly, growth was very limited at the turn of the century because of protectionist policies. In the 1900's, countries obtained revenue through tariffs on foreign products and as a result, had very low G.D.P. growth in regard to imported materials and products. The World Trade Organization was established in the 1940's to bring down tariff barriers. As a result, it is expected to see these kinds of G.D.P. growth rates in terms of foreign imported goods in the different regions of the world at the turn of the century.
