After a 7 hour plane ride from New York to Frankfurt my journey abroad began. After having a bit of a mishap with the German train system, I finally was able to get on the correct train for the two hour ride from Frankfurt to Frieburg. As I arrived in Freiburg, I was struck by all of the different historic looking buildings and how natural everything moved. For instance, the trams are sometimes on the same roads as the cars and bikes but they all go together and work in order.

Over the past week, I have been able to start to get aclimated to my surroundings. After seeing so many different monuments and historical structures, I knew I had to do a project on them and to look up their history. Looking up the history of the different buildings and monuments has also helped to become more aquanted with the city and the history that makes Freiburg -Freiburg.

On my first tour of Freiburg, the main building that grabbed my attention was the Minster in Freiburg. Construction began on this Roman Catholic church in 1200. Shockingly, it has survived until today, even being spared from Allied bombing durring World War II.

Seeing this Minster and going inside was incredible! Many people who were touring the city with me remarked that it was the most beautiful church they had ever seen.

Over this past weekend, me and some of my new freinds took a weekend trip to Lucern, Switzerland. I had never been to Switzerland and was very excited to go and see the mountains and the city! It was absolutly beautiful in Switzerland! I have never really seen anything like it, the city was surrounded by mountains all around and was so nice.

While in Lucern, we went to see the Lion Monument. The Lion Monument is a memorial to the Swiss Guards who died durring the French Revolution in 1792. The monument was breathtaking! The way that it was created had a lion killed in battle and with a look of sorrow on his face. It really had me stop and think about not just the history of Switerland, but also about conflict currently occuring in the world. I was speechless at this memorial and spent quite a while staring at it. After my trip to Switzerland, I had a new appreciation for the Swiss and had a new perspective on my everyday life. Topics like duty and sacrafice really made me reflect. It was an incredible monument to see!

The entire monument projected loss and sorrow. The pool of water helped to show the reflection of the lion and really made me think about reflecting on history and how it relates to people today.

This week we are going to Berlin and Prauge and I am sure the monuments and historical buildings will be very interesting there as well!
